If you haven't heard, Windows 7 support is ending. As of January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer issue free security updates.

Users can continue to receive extended support for updates, in which will cost will vary depending on the version you have. Windows 7 Enterprise customer will pay $25.00 per machine for the first year. This doubles to $50 per machine the second year, and then $100 per machine the third year.

So, recently I had a need to return a bad piece of memory to Corsair under their lifetime warranty program.

Overall, setting up the warranty wasn't anything out of the ordinary: proof of purchase and the troubleshooting techniques used to determine that the memory was bad. These items were submitted and I quickly received an RMA to return the memory. I shipped the memory on December 21, 2018 and it was delivered to Corsair on December 28, 2018.

It seems Microsoft just can't get their stuff together when it comes to Windows 10 updates. Microsoft is aware of the issue and is "investigating". I have to wonder how they'll fix this one since the issue breaks your ability to get updates, you can't push an update out to fix the issue.

Microsoft is going to consumer more of your disk space to ensure that Windows will be able to update. Microsoft is introducing ‘Reserved Storage’ in Windows 10 Build 1903 that will consume a lump of storage from your hard drive which “cannot be removed from the OS” and ensures your computer can receive the latest upgrade.
